Make Unforgettable Happen Fund Supports Akwaaba Volunteers, Ghana

We are delighted to announce the next recipient of our Make Unforgettable Happen Fund, the incredible Akwaaba Volunteers charity in Ghana. Its mission is to brighten the future of children through resources, education and opportunities to succeed.

Akwaaba Volunteers is a dynamic Ghana-based NGO dedicated to brightening the future of underprivileged children and communities in Accra since 2016. Operating across three impactful pillars – health, education, and sports (with animal welfare and vocational training as added dimensions) – they empower young people through sustainable, community-led programmes.

Education: Collaborating closely with the Future Leaders School, Akwaaba ensures children from impoverished backgrounds access schooling, uniforms, books, meals, and transportation – all at no cost, breaking down barriers to learning.

Sports Projects: Football and netball initiatives such as “Street‑to‑School Soccer” use sport as a vehicle to inspire children, boost confidence, teach teamwork, and promote gender equality – all while encouraging school attendance.

Health & Community: They distribute health insurance, organise clinics, run marine clean‑ups, and promote hygiene to build healthier communities.

Animal and vocational care: Volunteers engage in veterinary clinics, primate rescues, and help build the new Threaded‑Together Vocational Centre—empowering women through skills training.

We will be supporting an 11-year-old boy called Sammy and will be paying for his education for the next year. He’s been supported by the charity since he was 6, as has his sister, who is now on a scholarship programme. Our thanks go to Sam Gill and Dominique Gill for introducing Alex Hewitt to this most amazing cause, which we are delighted to support.
