An unforgettable weekend in Marrakech – Day 2

2 February 2023

On Day 2 of our unforgettable weekend in Marrakech, we zip-lined along the Atlas Mountains, drank plenty of mint tea, rode camels into the sunset and danced the night away in a desert camp! Read on for all of the details:

Day 2

In the morning we piled into an SUV convoy and made our way toward the Atlas mountains. As we arrived at the most beautiful viewing point, we found out that we were going to tackle Morocco’s longest zip wire!

The sun shined and illuminated the ridges of the surrounding scenery beautifully.

Zip Lining

While some were too nervous to tackle it, others faced their fears on the first step of our trail. A bridge with nearly one meter gaps between the planks! We all agreed this was the worst part of the adventure. After a couple of shorter lines we reached the longest and final zip line with stunning views of the surrounding scenery.

Go Ape

The activity park also included a Go Ape climbing forest which provided a great opportunity to bond as a team. As the group navigated the different platforms, everyone secured their hooks on the zip lines and patiently waited to complete each step together. Where some needed words of encouragement, others were there to help. The bonding experience was a key moment in our unforgettable weekend in Marrakech.

Lunch with a view

Exhausted and very ready for lunch, we headed for the hillside restaurant which had the most spectacular views of the mountains. We ate traditional tajine vegetables with BBQ meats and basked in the sun on loungers afterwards.

Tea with Berbers

On our way toward the desert, we passed by small villages, local farmers, donkey parking lots and Berber traders. As we reached the edge of the desert, we stopped at a Berber’s house who invited us in for a Moroccan mint tea ceremony. After showing us the ingredients: sugar, green tea and fresh mint, he artfully poured the tea into small glasses.

Afterwards, we stepped out onto a terrace that had an unbelievably clear view across the desert. We saw paragliders riding out the sunny weather and couldn’t miss the opportunity for a group picture!

Camel ride to camp

As we progressed deeper into the desert, we started seeing quad bikes and camels on the curved sand dunes. We finally came to a stop and saw the heard of camels that would carry us on the last stretch.

Wrapped in blue kaftans and head scarves, we each (with varying degrees of difficulty) mounted our camels to join a caravan riding into the sunset.

Camping in the desert

At the desert camp we were greeted by a live band encouraging us to dance into the evening. We changed into our traditional Moroccan outfits that we had bought at the souk on day 1 and were ready for an unforgettable evening.

With a cocktail in hand, we danced by the pool and sang along with the band. In the dining tent we were greeted by a beautifully set table lit up by candle light. After a couple of emotional speeches we ate deliciously slow cooked lamb shanks and tajine vegetables.

Finally, we danced the night away by the campfire and enjoyed our last night in Marrakech to the fullest!
