Berlin Bound

5 March 2018

Our Head of Live Events Jess, headed to Berlin and had an unforgettable trip! Find out what made this trip so amazing.

The Arrival

When my invite came through for the Meetings Space show in Berlin with an extended stay for a FAM trip I jumped at the opportunity! I have been to a lot of cities in Europe but I had never been to Berlin and The Meetings Space show is a great way to meet and network with others in the industry from all over the world.

We arrived in a slightly snowy Berlin around mid-afternoon and headed straight to the Hilton Berlin where we would be staying for the next two nights. We enjoyed welcome drinks in the lobby of the hotel followed by hopping on board some buses which had arrived to take us to our dinner location; Super.

Tour Time!

The next morning we started our meetings for the day! I met lots of lovely people representing amazing hotels, DMC’s and convention bureaus. After the meetings were over we had half an hour to get ready for our afternoon tour. We had a choice of four different tours, I chose to go on the one that took us all to see the Brandenburg Gate and the Holocaust memorial. Visiting the Holocaust memorial was a moving experience that left us all speechless, the architecture is truly stunning. I would recommend a visit to anyone who’s spending time in Berlin.

After our tours, the entire group gathered at Spreespeicher for drinks, canapes and a little golf competition! The venue was lovely with fantastic views over the river which we managed to catch at sunset.

Dinner at Ewerk

After a few drinks and canapes, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the evening gala dinner. We arrived at Ewerk and were met with a beautifully set venue with incredible cocktails, sushi and entertainment from some hilariously fun drag artists!

Graffiti Masterclass

The next day we had our final meetings before saying goodbye to those who were heading home after a successful few days of meetings and networking. Those of us that were staying on for the FAM trip were taken to Hanger 42 for a graffiti masterclass! We were allowed free reign in our groups as long as our ‘masterpieces’ were somehow linked to the Meeting Space show. After a few minor hiccups to begin with it turned out to be so much fun and the end product turned out ok (with a few tweaks from a professional)!

Post graffiti we headed over to the hotel Nhow for some food, drinks, and a site visit. The hotel Nhow collection is interesting, they are all designed around a specific genre. The Berlin hotel is themed around music with the reception desk designed in the shape of a guitar, there is a full recording studio, you can hire electric guitars from reception and the bar features a full stage for live performances. The view from their main suite which can also be used as event space was stunning.

After the site visit we got the transfer to our hotel for the night the Sofitel Berlin, the hotel is beautiful and our bedrooms were huge, I felt very spoilt! Once we were all ready we met in the lobby and headed to dinner at Spindler Klatt. The food was incredible and each course was served on a huge sharing platter.

The Final Morning

On our final morning, we then checked out of our rooms and headed over to the Radio Tower to see Berlin from above. The view was breathtaking, it was amazing to be able to see a 360-degree view of the city and the differences still between the East and West of the city.

After the Radio Tower tour, we went to the Hotel de Rome for a site visit of their event space and some fun team building activities. We then went to the Waldorf Astoria Berlin again for a site visit of the beautiful hotel and its event space followed by a delicious lunch to fill us up before we made our way home!

Thank you so much to the Meetings Space show for organising such a fantastic weekend full of networking, fun and sightseeing. Thank you as well to the Hilton Berlin and Sofitel Berlin for the accommodation whilst we were there, the bedrooms were lovely! And finally to all the other hotels, venues and suppliers for ensuring we were always eating, drinking and having fun.
