One year at AOK Events with Susie McCarthy
18 October 2023
Susie joined the AOK Creative team a year ago and has quickly become one of our most valuable players! We caught up with her to find out her highlights after one year at AOK Events, her favourite events she’s worked on and what she has learnt since joining.
What have you learnt since joining?
To have more confidence – I think AOK Events is great at supporting and encouraging everyone to be the best they can be.
Top tip when designing an event?
Know your why – Have a clear idea of what you are trying to achieve by hosting your event and be mindful of your goals with every decision you make.
Favourite team moment?
Probably our company sports day this summer, complete with tug of war, a three-legged race and a pretty lively game of rounders. It was great fun getting out of the office with the whole company and it was so entertaining seeing everyone get so competitive!
NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
It’s a very special, unique venue and The Hintze Hall, featuring the blue whale structure, is a spectacular space for a Christmas party.
We work with lots of venues that include a variety of street food vendors in their event packages. My favourite recently was a mac n cheese vendor at Between the Bridges!
A GREAT BAND
Music is key to hosting a great event. One of my favourite bands we offer is a roaming trio who will ask 2 or 3 guests at a time for a song, creating a mash up on the spot which is epic!
Susie’s Event Highlights
Bespoke Activities in Barcelona
I really enjoyed working on a variety of bespoke activities for a client in Barcelona, including a private tour & tasting of local winery Can Bas, a private dinner on a yacht and a walking tapas & wine tour of the city. It was fun to coordinate a series of events across a few days to keep my client’s customers thoroughly entertained!
Summer Party at the Hurlingham Club
I worked on a large Summer party this year for 1000 guests, featuring lots of entertainment including funfair activities, a steel band, a DJ and a roaming band. It was a real British Summertime vibe on the day, and the weather was beautiful which was the cherry on the cake!
Pitch Day at Stamford Bridge
I would also have to say the pitch day I worked on at Stamford Bridge during the World Cup in November. I supported our event manager on the day, and being a huge Chelsea fan, took a lot of joy out of scoring a goal on the pitch!
